The Young Artist at Work (YAAW), Toledo, Ohio
Fall 2019

Along running Toledo Arts Commission program ran a pilot program in the fall of 2019. I had the opportunity to work with several young working artists as well as an intern from BGSU. We create two small mosaic murals, one for a local fruit and vegetable market, Johnson’s Market. We also created a piece for the Douglas Community Center.

The students learned the process I use for community art projects and community engagement from design, to client interaction, to community sessions and finally installation. We created an inviting visual for the entry way of Johnson’s Fruit Market that can be seen by the foot and car traffic as they pass the market.

The second small mural was installed on the 3rd floor of the Douglas Community Center where they hold GED classes and other classes and programs for their community members. The imagery for this mural represents the goals we all strive for; continued education, a home and transportation.
